The Internet Society (ISOC) will host a half-day workshop on “Measuring Internet Censorship in Practice” on May 21, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Room 116, ITServ Building, Asian Institute of Technology. This session aims to equip participants with the technical and methodological understanding necessary to analyze and detect online censorship.
The workshop will feature a lecture providing an overview of global censorship practices, followed by an exploration of leading censorship measurement platforms like OONI and Censored Planet. Attendees will also engage in a hands-on tutorial using OONI Explorer to interpret real-world censorship data. Led by Dr. Amreesh Phokeer, an Internet Measurement and Data Expert at ISOC, the workshop is designed for students, researchers, technologists, digital rights advocates, and policy professionals.
Participants should have some background in networking and Python programming with Jupyter notebooks. Interested individuals are encouraged to register soon as seats are limited, with the registration closing date set for May 18, 2025.
